Keynote 1: INSPIRING SAFETY EXCELLENCE- Facilitator : Ron C. McKinnon

Introduction

Safety excellence is when an organization’s safety culture is based on a strong foundation of updated safety philosophy. The excellence is driven by an active safety policy, and maintained by a risk-based, management-led, audit-driven safety management system (SMS). Visible management leadership, and the practice of applying management principle, are prime factors in enhancing safety excellence.

Program Objectives

Excellence in safety can only be achieved by having the basic building blocks of a safety culture in place. Sometimes, this means reverting to the basics of safety, and focusing on implementing them, rather that measuring efforts by using downstream indices.Safety excellence is hard to achieve, but by applying basic concepts of safety philosophy, an organization can greatly improve their safety status. Excellence starts with getting the basics right.
